Primary & Secondary Education

The Manx Language Unit consists of the Manx Language Officer and a small team of peripatetic teachers. The team is responsible for:

  • Manx lessons for school pupils at primary schools (from Year 4 onwards). 
  • Manx lessons for school pupils at secondary schools. 
  • Manx medium lessons in two subjects per year in years 7, 8 & 9 at Queen Elizabeth II High School (for fluent speaking pupils).
  • Translating and creating teaching and assessment resources
  • The assessment and awarding of formal qualifications in the language; the Teisht Chadjin Ghaelgagh (CEFR A1/A2, GCSE equivalent), and the Ard Teisht Ghaelgagh ((CEFR B1/B2, A Level equivalent).
