Dedicated to the Gaelic Language of the Isle of Man

Ned Maddrell Lecture 2017

This year's Ned Maddrell lecture will be held on Saturday afternoon, the 22nd July at Tynwald Mills Conference Centre at 2pm.

Every year a guest speaker is invited to deliver a lecture on language, culture and identity and this year Culture Vannin, in conjunction with Yn Çheshaght Ghailckagh (The Manx Language Society), are delighted to have Linda Ervine from the Turas Mission in East Belfast in the Island to deliver the lecture. Linda will talk about her own journey with the Irish language together with the work Turas does to connect people from Protestant communities to their own history with Irish.

Adrian Cain, the Manx Language Development Officer for Culture Vannin, commented: ‘this year’s lecture promises to be an inspiring and exciting look at the valuable work that Linda and Turas carry out in Northern Ireland. Linda is a fantastic speaker and this will be an event not to be missed.’

Linda Ervine and her colleagues will be in the Island for several days during their visit. It is hoped that as a consequence of Linda’s visit a strong working relationship can be formed between Turas and Culture Vannin that will support the work both organisations do for their respective language communities.

The lecture is free and open to all, but advance booking is required.

Culture Vannin is proud to be able to initiate, inspire and support a wide range of activities that support Manx culture.
